A volunteer writes: Just look at that plush coat and those lovely markings, Max is one dapper chap! This handsome boy is no wallflower either and as soon as I enter the room, he is waiting at the front of his den to let me know he's more than ready for his walk. Max was found wearing a collar and his friendly disposition and great physical condition suggest that until recently he was a well cared for pet, no wonder then that he is stressed and anxious in his kennel. All Max wants is to get outdoors and spend time with his person and as soon as we step outside he relaxes into what must be a familiar routine of sniffing and exploration. He demonstrates his good manners by using the bathroom immediately and when we meet other dogs he pulls toward them with a happy wagging tail. Off leash, Max enjoys chasing a ball around and even waits for my throw but as he shows no interest in picking it up or retrieving, I get plenty of exercise too! When I return Max to his kennel he calmly lays down on his bed and gently accepts my proffered treat, such a good boy. Max has just the right mix of playfulness and gentleness in his nature, I could see him easily settling into a loving home where he can spend time running and frolicking with his new family before bedding down for some snuggle time. Max is ready and waiting for you, ask for him at our Manhattan Care Center today!
*Max displayed some food guarding behavior during his evaluation but showed no other concerning signs or aggression. Food guarding behavior is not uncommon in dogs in shelters and is usually easy to correct.
