Neglected sweet pitbull Victoria in dangr@NYC kill shelter-seeks angel in Manhattan, New York

A staff asked me to take care of Victoria, a little black dog huddled at the back of her kennel. "She is so scared and sooooo skinny..." It is very cold outside. I brought a coat to make sure the little girl would not be freezing. Taking Victoria out of her den was not that easy. She was afraid and I could hear a soft growl.She wanted to come out, though but leash free and probably run away....I attracted her with roastbeef. It rarely fails.... Victoria was leashed, clothed without problem and off we went for a very short walk. We spent some time in the garage, shielded from the bad weather. I could not believe my eyes....Victoria is a tiny adult who seems to have suffered years of neglect. Old and new sores are covering bony prominences that lack fat and good muscles. Her coat is dirty, musty and the hair is stiffened by a glue like substance. She walked slightly crouched. She could have been confined for long hours. Her face is serious, solemn but she has the most beautiful eyes, the reflection of her bruised soul. It went right though my heart, causing tears and anger at the same time....I fed her. Victoria was ravenous for food. She is being fed three times a day but has a lot to catch up. Victoria was not scared anymore. She was clinging to me like I had rescued her out of the ocean....She fitted her whole body on my lap and just closed her eyes while being caressed. She could have stayed like that for days and days....Victoria is a lovely dog who went through very difficult times. It is about time that we make it up to her, mend the harm that was done by others and find her the cozyness of a home sweet home and an owner or family who will adore her. Victoria is at the Manhattan Care Center, wishing upon a star.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption @ nycacc.org (remove the spaces) but ONLY email if you are serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions. Also, have the ID# listed at the top of this post handy when inquiring!! This dog is in danger of being on the euthanasia list and could be scheduled to be killed at any time! If you absolutely cannot get to the shelter, please contact participating rescue groups listed toward the bottom of the link to see if they can assist you:

If you cannot adopt foster ! Fostering is free and does not have to be pernament it can be short term but will save a life ..contact a rescue group from the link above for more info about fostering
