A volunteer writes: Fuerte means 'strong' in Spanish and when I first meet this handsome, happy-go-lucky redhead I'm reminded of a simple phrase from my home country that we offer when times are tough - 'Stay strong.' It's both a show of support and a reminder that you are braver than you think and courageous Fuerte certainly needs to know that we're all rooting for him to find that perfect forever family today. He's full of wonderful, playful energy and though he does pull strongly on leash, once free in a pen he's not even close to hyperactive and prefers to spend his time socializing and getting to know all the delicious scents of his new surroundings rather than chasing a ball. Fuerte loooves his food and he's so keen I don't even have time to say 'sit' before he's clocked the treat bag and plopped his butt down without prompting! No matter the size or shape of snack I toss to him, Fuerte chomps it right out of the air like a pro, never fumbling the play and catching his prize every single time. Hugs are welcomed and also offered on command and though I wouldn't call him a snuggler, Fuerte clearly enjoys being fussed over, kissed and petted and his happy tail whips back and forth as I tell him what a good boy he is. Now that he's aced his behavior assessment (with great scores on everything from handling to doggie socialization) the only thing missing from Fuerte's life is an experienced, active, strong-hearted family who'll truly appreciate all the joy his endless love and loyalty can bring.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 01/31/2015 from NY 10301, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

From The ACC site: To help ensure successful adoptions, please fill out a pre-adoption application (http://www.nycacc.org/pdfs/adoptions/AdoptionApplication.pdf) and bring it with you when you come into the Care Center to adopt a pet.
