Handsome active amstaff Melo in danger@NYC kill shelter in Manhattan, New York

A volunteer writes: Melo must surely be named for that other New York sports star, Carmelo Anthony, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that when it comes to playing ball, our little guy is the true powerhouse on court! Melo may not be the most graceful athlete around but his leaps are gravity-defying, his footwork is beyond speedy and his defence is so tight that I can actually lift him off the ground before he lets go of the ball! But don't think that just because he's a tenacious player this cute redhead can't chill out and listen, quite the contrary. He'll sit politely on command for treats (nibbled gently from my hand) or a throw of the ball and as long as we're not playing keep-away he always comes running when I call. Melo's an energetic boy and does pull a bit on leash but he seems very house trained and with a little extra practice time he'll soon have his walks running as smoothly as his game. His former owner tells us Melo gets along well with other dogs, especially small ones, and is friendly with children and strangers too -- sounds like the perfect party animal to me! Handsome, talented and so much fun, Melo would make a wonderful pet for your active family and if you're not Knicks fans he won't even hold it against you. This superstar may be benched right now but he just can't wait to get back in the game of life, won't you give him a second chance to shine?

**Melo was originally brought to ACC after his original caregiver could no longer take care of him (Feb 2015). He was adopted in early March, then returned in less than 24 hrs, his new adopters claimed he bit someone...he has absolutely no history of biting or aggression. Because of this claim, the Dept of Health has placed a temporary adoption hold on him. He will need a permanent or foster home quickly once his hold is lifted (on or about 3/31).
