A volunteer writes;
Rocky is a dog of mysterious mixed lineage. He reminds me of a pony but sure enough, when his coat retrieves it initial beauty and his weight regains its right amount of pounds, Rocky will be a stunning dog ! Rocky was relinquished into our care as his landlord unfriended dogs. He lived his life part in house, part in a yard and shared his quarters with cats that he chased... Just like us, Rocky likes some dogs and not others but ignores them most of the time. He would be friendly to strangers and children with whom he lived in harmony. Rocky is calm but stressed to be in an unfamiliar environment. Ten years of age is not an ideal time in life to make drastic changes... It takes a toll on a dog...Still, Rocky follows me passively, walking at a nice pace and doing the stairs without effort. He eliminates on the way and nears other dogs without any issue. Free in a large pen, Rocky comes when called and accepts caresses, his big lost eyes looking into mine, seeking may be an answer to his question:'what am I doing here ? I want to go home..." Rocky seems to be like his owner describes him a nice dog.It is never too late to start life all over again . Yes, it can happen if you take it upon you to give Rocky a second chance around... Rocky is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.
*Rocky's previous owner attempted to 'groom' him, which is why his coat looks as it currently does. It will grow back, he does not have any known skin conditions. Rocky would most likely be best suited to a home without other pets, as he seems selective in terms of other dogs and cats which he interacts with*

This dog is located at the Manhattan Animal Care&Control (326 E110 St, Manhattan 10029). For more information on a particular dog, email adoption @ nycacc.org (remove the spaces) but ONLY email if you are serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions. Also, have the ID# listed at the top of this post handy when inquiring!! This dog is in danger of being on the euthanasia list and could be scheduled to be killed at any time! If you absolutely cannot get to the shelter, please contact participating rescue groups listed toward the bottom of the link to see if they can assist you:

If you cannot adopt foster ! Fostering is free and does not have to be pernament it can be short term but will save a life ..contact a rescue group from the link above for more info about fostering
