A volunteer writes: Mara is a big and earthy girl who can be defined by her love of people. She is the best friend, the "creature comfort" everybody dreams during down or happy times. Yes, Mara will be there for you when you need her..always. Mara is a chunky young girl who was found as a stray. She seems to have had a litter or two and has been well cared for judging by the quality of her coat and her healthy looks. She is uncomfortable with our premises as she appears to have been a house dog but gets into "business" as we spend more time together. She is the ultimate lap dog , hugger and kisser who is beaming in my arms. Another volunteer commented to me about Mara being a "velcro" dog. . . Mara pulls just a little on the leash and relieves herself immediately after leaving the premises. She does not mind pictures taking and she sits on command and for treats that she takes gently from my hand. Mara is a lovely chunky mama we have at the Manhattan Care Center. She has a lot to offer in return of your love and pledge to cherish her for ever. . ..A feel good true friend. . .

I came in the shelter as a RETURN on 08/05/2014 from OUT OF NYC, owner surrender reason stated was PETS CONFL.
This dog is located at the Manhattan Animal Care&Control (326 E110 St, Manhattan 10029). For more information on a particular dog, email adoption @ nycacc.org (remove the spaces) but ONLY email if you are serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions. Also, have the ID# listed at the top of this post handy when inquiring!! This dog is in danger of being on the euthanasia list and could be scheduled to be killed at any time! If you absolutely cannot get to the shelter, please contact participating rescue groups listed toward the bottom of the link to see if they can assist you:

If you cannot adopt foster ! Fostering is free and does not have to be pernament it can be short term but will save a life ..contact a rescue group from the link above for more info about fostering
From The ACC site: To help ensure successful adoptions, please fill out a pre-adoption application (http://www.nycacc.org/pdfs/adoptions/AdoptionApplication.pdf) and bring it with you when you come into the Care Center to adopt a pet. If you are coming from outside of the immediately area, it is strongly suggest that you first complete an application and email it to adoption @ nycacc.org -This will allow ACC to answer any questions and resolve any potential obstacles before you make the trip.
