A staff member writes:
Bosco, affectionately known as Old McDonald, is a senior gentleman with a lot of dignity and a lot of spunk. On day one Bosco was going to show everyone that he was no pushover. He bared a perfect set of teeth at all who approached. But age makes for shorter reaction times so on day two, as Bosco lunged toward the determined leash bearing human handler, he was not able to make his point. Bosco was looped and coaxed outside even as his growling continued. He eliminated immediately and spent most of his time checking over his shoulder to see what the annoying person at the other end of the rope was doing. Walking Bosco, just walking. As more days have passed, so too has Bosco's level of discomfort. Very spry and fit, though substantially underweight, our aging hero now jumps out of his kennel and looks forward to time spent outside with his small circle of friends. Surprisingly well trained, his ears instantly perk up when asked to perform. He sits on command and gives paw- both left and right- for a tasty treat, which he takes very politely. Not so surprisingly, Bosco is a joy on leash. He now invites most forms of gentle contact from those with whom he's bonded and readily returns the affection. But Bosco has been let down mightily in his past. Knowingly left in a discarded car by his former owner who then called a towing company to cart the vehicle away, Bosco was carted away as well. Add to this the fact that, when Bosco was discovered, he was let out in the tow yard, lost and confused. He now has a bite or two on his record as he tried to protect himself from those who thought they could catch him as he wandered. Thus his DOH status. Bosco has been through quite a lot, but he's persevered. He would make the perfect addition to a quiet, loving family who appreciate the joys and benefits of inviting an elder into their home. It may take Bosco a little time to trust but, once he does, he will never leave your side. Bosco is a good boy, loyal and spirited. Keep those treats handy as there's probably no limit to the tricks he has up his sleeve.
