Type: Art & Antiques, For Sale

A Complete set of the 6 1980 Levi's XXII Summer Olympic Posters color-process printed on heavy art paper, hand signed by each artist. From the collection of a former brand manager of Levi?s. Levi's commissioned some of the great commercial artists of the 1970s and 1980s to produce these posters to promote their official sponsor status.
Each poster emphasized the sport associated with one of the six continents, and only three of them bear the artist's name: Michael Manwaring (Asia): Hon Kawu (Australia) and the initials M.C. (Africa).
When the USSR invaded Afganhistan in the 1970s, President Carter cancelled the US participation in the Moscow Olympics as a protest. Levi Strauss was one of the sponsors of that event and was scheduled to provide the members of the US team apparel. And they abandoned the poster promotion and withdrew them because of the US boycott of the games.
With only a trial run of each poster printed and never distributed, the images have become extremely rare. To see all six is more than a rarity: It's an opportunity to realize that they are first-rate designs which stand up to the best of any Olympics posters.
