The frame is a beautiful rich, dark mahogany wood, arguably even ebony depending on the observer and the lighting, with a matte finish that gives the work about 2 1/2" of width on all 4 sides, with a concave surface that makes this a very difficult piece to damage as you drag it from apartment to apartment around the city or boroughs.
